James MacDonald Plays the Race Card

Posted by Christine Pack and Cathy Mathews

James MacDoanld with Eric Mason, Charles Jenkins and Bryan Loritts

James MacDonald posted a video today in which he gathered together three African American Christian pastors to discuss the fallout from his public embracing of heretic T.D. Jakes as a Christian brother. Below is a partial transcript of their conversation:
Bryan Loritts: "Some of the strongest reactions were African Americans in the blogosphere....um, I'll just go ahead and say it, who strike me as wanting so bad to be in the white theological world. And to take a little bit of a tangent here, and I'll get back, the loudest voices in the conservative evangelical world, in my estimation right now, are your older, white reformed voices. And so that implicitly sends the message that mature Christianity in the conservative evangelical world is 'older white.' And you've got some African Americans who so idolize that - what some people would call white idolization - that they then feel as if they've got to be the voice for black culture to speak against people like T.D. Jakes. So what happens is, you kind of prop them up. When the truth of the matter is, the term 'black' is very complex.......We're different, we're different. So my concern is, African Americans, a small minority speaking against Jakes, and then leveraging that in the white theological world for some of these older white theologians...."
James MacDonald: "What would they be leveraging it for?"
Bryan Loritts: "To fit into their circles...."
James MacDonald: "Opportunity...?"
Bryan Loritts: "We want to be in their circles. And so we'll allow ourselves to used as a puppet. That is my perception of some of this backlash."
TRANSLATION: If you are white and will not accept Modalist heretic T.D. Jakes as a brother in Christ, then you are racist. If you are black and will not accept TD Jakes as a brother, it is because you are being used as a puppet by the white reformed community. Our question: Is everybody okay with the race card being so blatantly played?

  1. Ah yes, when all else fails, AD HOMINEM. Sorry, but Voddie Baucham blew that argument out of the water on GFB church's blog.

  2. This is just disgusting. I thought the one area of my life I would be safe from race issues was the church. I guess not. All I have to say then is, call me a racist, cause I will not side with a heretic, no matter what race they are.

  5. Ditto's to all the above! True colors(prejudice)come out when the "rubber meets the road" What does he mean...the term Black is "complex"? Like all white preachers/teachers are identical? This is so typical black prejudice that gets a pass. A white man, making that claim would be called prejudice. Theology has NO COLOR period! This is sickening and the fact it went unchallenged shows a shallowness about James MacDonald that I've never seen. Soooo disappointing! Can he not see how this pastors "opinion" is tainted by his own perseption of color being raised above theology? By his standard anyone in the Black community who stands against "modelism" is a racist. They really need to do a heart check! I am truly saddened that James did not speak up for the all christians...black, white, yellow, red or purple who love the truth!

  6. So men like Voddie Baucham and Thabiti Anyabwile are letting themselves be used as puppets? It can't be that they think for themselves and just happen to be in theological agreement with the older white guys?

Mr. Loritts is a racist, pure and simple.

(And whoever heard of him before this fiasco, anyway? If we were to analyze his motives...?)

  7. Loritts is a racist period.

Of course, since I am Chinese, I am sure they will claim I am a boot-licker to my white masters [ s ]. So we have black boot-lickers, and next Chinese boot-lickers.

    Pathetic!

  8. Spot on Joy~~

This kind of behavior by MacDonald along with Loritts and the others is unChristlike, inappropriate and totally unacceptable in the body of Christ. When the race card is used as a cover for error, it is appalling!!

Racism is the farthest thing from Christians hearts and minds who love Jesus and are motivated by the love of the TRUTH and their loving devotion to the Lord. I can understand this with unbelievers but with people who call themselves "Christians"?? This is disgraceful-Pr.13:5

This Red herring is an ugly desperate smack in the face to those of us who love the TRUTH and love the character and attributes of our Triune God. all it has done really is expose the ugliness of their hearts. -"As a man thinkith in his heart, so is he"

These men's true colors are turning out to be nothing but a bunch of sycophant fundedgelicals

"A man who strays from the path of understanding comes to rest in the company of the dead.-Proverbs 21:16

  10. "Mr. Loritts is a racist, pure and simple". I agree 100%!! What a divisive and harmful comment!! I'm a black woman, and these men have left out God's Word altogether!!! I have no desire to be white, my desire is to please God and Him alone. These men are as racist as the KKK and they do not represent our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Next they will be telling us that President Obama is a God fearing christian~

    2. Sister, we have a right to be offended at this foolishness! I grew up in a church that taught black theology and it almost ruined my life - I truly thank God for setting me free. This black theology inbreeds entitlement and a justification of hatred towards whites & other races; it flies directly opposite of scripture that teaches forgiveness and what Christ has done for all men.

These men are twisted to say the less, God is not for the black man nor more than being for the white man. Jesus was about His Father's business, Luke 4:18-19~

  11. I cannot believe this is happening in the body of Christ! As a Christian who happens to be black, I am saddened, shocked and dismayed that these preachers would play the race card. So by their faulty thinking any criticism of black preachers/teachers is racially motivated. Do they not realize this thinking simply provides a haven for these ravenous wolves? Talk about the theological version of a "get out of jail free" card.

  13. People, please remember and focus on the essence of this issue: RACISM is evil and demonic and of course the devil would use this tool in the church more than anywhere else. Why are people shocked to see this in the church? Judas was one of the 12 disciples. Why? because God wanted to show us that in the midst of Christ, the devil attacks the most.
