From the 1972 Academy award winning documentary Marjoe, about the life of evangelist Marjoe Gortner. (NOTE: Some offensive language)

  1. I remember Justin Peters using clips of this during his conference, but I've never seen the whole thing. Thanks for posting it!

  2. I was alternately in tears at times and angry at times when viewing it. His parents trained him like a monkey, and both were verbally abusive to him.

  3. Well, I've never heard of the man(Marjoe) til now. I really didn't enjoy the film probably because I was quite disgusted with all the people being shammed. I'm a very scrupulous person so I just cannot conceive of how anyone can do this to people~ it's just beyond me. How do people sleep at nite and how do people like this walk around carrying such guilt ?? I am horrified at the thought of if he goes before God unsaved all the times he said "thank you Jesus" oh what a macabre it will be.Such blasphemy

I know that we have every right to be angry at people like this but then we are no better when we look to Christ at the cross for if it were not his GRACE GO I. I hope and pray that if this man is still alive that he will come to know forgiveness of all his sins and be restored his dignity and worth that only Jesus can give him and true love of what it's like to have God as his Father

  4. Marjoe is still alive. The last I checked, he is not a Christian. I watched this video about 2 yrs ago, about 1 year after I left the world of charismania. I was deeply involved in the mess for more than 30 years. I'm very thankful to be free from pentecostalism and subjective Christianity. More importantly, I'm glad I did not lose my faith in Christ. He has used it all for good. I've been able to help a lot of people who've visited my blog. He does work all things together for Good! (Rom. 8:28)

  6. Mostly apparent is that nothing of substance gets spoken at Gortner's 'meetings'.
Notice how it is just LOUD emotionalism.
    Hallelujah! hallelujah!...
Nothing but loud yelling, singing, clapping and repeating of the same words like Hallelujah over and over.
Complete emotionalism. No bible teaching, nothing spoken in a logical manner. Just brainlessness.
What does any of that have to do with God?, I ask.
Can people really believe that this is what the bible teaches?
